The Elite name was dropped after 1976 when Ford restructured its mid size range for 1977 and moved the Thunderbird name onto the Torino based LTD II platform. The 1976 Elite had a partial landau vinyl top and options including a 400 or 460 V8 and a power glass moonroof. The Elite was a mid size two door coupe offered by Ford in North America, sold above the Torino and below the Thunderbird. It sold in third place among its personal luxury rivals in each of its three model years.
