Ford introduced the Gran Torino Elite on 18 February 1974 as the top of the Torino series, though it was advertised separately and was titled and registered as a Gran Torino. It was a mid size two door coupe aimed at the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and the Pontiac Grand Prix. The Elite was a mid size two door coupe offered by Ford in North America, sold above the Torino and below the Thunderbird. It sold in third place among its personal luxury rivals in each of its three model years.
