The Courier of 1975 had an impressive load capacity of 1,400 pounds considering its size, a four cylinder engine, rear wheel drive and a small price compared with full size pickups. To avoid the twenty five percent tariff on light trucks, it was imported as a cab chassis with the bed added in the United States. It began as a sedan delivery, became a Mazda built compact pickup, and later a Fiesta based van and coupe utility.
