The 1974 model year was the last for the Barracuda. It used a 360 V8 in place of the 340, and its design remained basically unchanged from 1972. Plymouth discontinued the car after 1974, a victim of the energy crisis. A 1975 successor with Superbird inspired styling was drawn in clay but was never put into production. Its sales had been hit by performance car insurance surcharges and higher fuel prices after the 1973 oil crisis, and it was the last of the E body Barracudas that had begun in 1970.
