The 1974 Camaro grew seven inches longer because of its new federal bumpers and a forward sloping grille. It was the last year of the Z28 as a regular production option, and it was the year in which Ford replaced the Mustang with the smaller Mustang II and Chrysler dropped the Barracuda and Challenger. Ford downsized the Mustang to the Pinto based Mustang II, which sold 385,993 in 1974, and 1974 was also the final year of the AMC Javelin.
