At the end of 1973 the new, larger 3.3 L was presented and it went on sale in January 1974. It had the long wheelbase and a bigger engine, though the power of the carburetted engine was no more than that of the 3.0 Si. Instead the extra torque was meant to provide a more luxurious feel rather than the sporting feel of BMW. The West Mercia Police bought a 3.0 Si in 1974. It was the first E3 with the enlarged 3.3 liter engine.
