The two door hardtop of the previous generation was replaced by an all new fastback coupe for 1974, a wholly restyled model with no appearance similar to the new sedan or wagon. The new Matador coupe was longer, wider and lower, and its wheelbase was 4 inches shorter than the four door versions. The sedan and wagon had a new front fascia, with a prominent central protrusion, and matadors with this front end are sometimes nicknamed coffin noses. The new coupe was featured in the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun.
