For 1973 the front fascia of the Cougar underwent an update to include a federally required five mile per hour bumper, which added three inches to the overall length. A light blue and white 1973 Cougar XR-7 was the last convertible assembled by Ford Motor Company for over a decade. The GT option was discontinued, power brakes became standard and the three speed manual transmission was dropped. A Bronze Age special edition was marketed.
