In 1972 the LTD continued as the flagship of the full size Ford range, with a base 302 V8 and the popular 351, 400 and 429 engines. The 1972 model year was the last in which a full size Ford offered a center console and floor mounted shifter, which would not return until the LTD LX of 1984. The second generation had been sold since 1969 as the best selling full size Ford. The LTD of 1972 was the fourth year of the redesigned second generation and an all V8 full size car.
