1971 Range Rover

Automobiles

The Range Rover was planned for the United States in mid-1971 at a base price of 5,300 dollars, but new American safety and emissions rules and British Leyland's weak finances stopped the launch. Ginger Baker, formerly the drummer of Cream, used an early Range Rover in 1971 to drive from Algeria to Lagos in Nigeria, and a Range Rover took part from 1971 in the first vehicle crossing of both American continents through the Darien Gap.
