In 1971 the Country Squire was given an extensive facelift, and the 390 V8 was replaced by a 402 cubic inch V8, though sold as a 400. The Country Squire rode on the 121 inch wheelbase shared with the Ford sedan line, with the LTD interior trim and simulated woodgrain paneling, as the top station wagon slotted above the Galaxie Country Sedan and the Custom 500 Ranch Wagon. The Country Squire was the top level Ford station wagon, distinguished by woodgrain bodyside trim.
