For a variety of reasons 1972 saw a major decrease in powertrain output, as gross horsepower was replaced by SAE net horsepower. The Country Squire of 1972 was part of the LTD line on a 121 inch wheelbase, with a 351 cubic inch V8 standard and the 400 and 429 optional. Its Mercury counterpart was the Colony Park, which became part of the Marquis line from 1969. The Country Squire was the top level Ford station wagon, distinguished by woodgrain bodyside trim.
