The 1971 Camaro had only minor appearance changes from 1970, with new high back bucket seats with built in headrests replacing the low back seats of 1970. Production and sales fell because of a 67 day General Motors strike that coincided with the introduction of the 1971 models in late September 1970, and because insurance rates for performance cars were rising. Rumors of the cancellation of the Camaro after 1972 began to surface, since interest in the pony car market was declining.
