By the end of the 1960s demand for high performance full size cars had largely disappeared. Mercury sold about 15,000 Marauders for 1969 and barely a third of that for 1970, while selling nearly 173,000 Cougars at the same time, and the Marauder was discontinued after the 1970 model year. Standard versions had the 390 cubic inch Ford FE engine, and the Marauder X-100 had a 360 horsepower 429 engine.
