The B1500 of 1969 was in its fifth year of the second generation. The Mazda brand entered the United States market in 1970 with just the small R100 and expanded to a full line in 1971, and the B series came with the 1972 B1600. Mazda used engine displacement to determine model designations, such as the B1500 with its 1.5 liter engine. Through its association with Ford, Mazda produced the B series as the Ford Courier and the Ford Ranger.
