Instead of selling the new van as a 1968 or a 1968 and a half model, Ford marketed the second generation Econoline for the 1969 model year. It had a heavier duty front engine layout with the Twin I Beam front suspension of the F Series, and a longer wheelbase than the first generation. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis.
