For 1969 the full size Ford range was redesigned, and the Custom and Custom 500 remained the economy models, the Custom 500 marketed toward budget conscious buyers who wanted a low cost automobile. Approximately 7,850,000 full size Fords and Mercurys were sold over 1969 to 1978, which makes it the tenth best selling automobile platform in history. The companion station wagon series was the Ranch Wagon. The Custom served Ford as a fleet and economy nameplate.
