The 1968 GTX was given a completely new look when Chrysler redesigned its B body cars, with an hourglass shaped body replacing the previous straight edged design. The high performance 440 and the TorqueFlite automatic were standard, whereas the automatic was an extra for the Road Runner. The GTX was positioned as an upscale Road Runner, adding luxury to performance. The GTX used the Sport Satellite body, and its standard 440 engine and TorqueFlite automatic made it the more expensive of Plymouth's two mid-size muscle cars.
