The 1967 Custom and Custom 500 were the economy models of the full size Ford range, sold to police and taxi fleets, with the Custom 500 marketed toward budget conscious buyers wanting a low cost automobile. A base inline six or small block V8 engine was fitted to most, though the 427 V8 of 425 horsepower and manual or SelectShift automatic transmissions were available for performance oriented customers who wanted the lightest car possible.
