The Chevelle SS 396 became a series of its own in 1966, with series and style numbers 13817 and 13867, and 1966 saw a complete restyle of the Chevelle on the previous frame, with smooth contours, a broad new grille, bumper treatment and curved side windows. The bulging rear fender lines and a flying buttress roofline were highlights of the 1966 hardtops, and four door hardtops dubbed Sport Sedans were available from 1966 through 1972.
