The mid engine layout of the Econoline was adopted by the 1964 Chevrolet G10 and the Dodge A100, which broke from the rear engined vans of the day. For 1964 Ford added a panel van with no side loading doors, and the 170 cubic inch six was offered with a three speed automatic. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
