The Valiant was totally reskinned for 1963, with a slightly shorter wheelbase, a wide, flat hood and a flat, square rear deck. The year set a worldwide sales record for the model. The Dodge Lancer, which had been almost identical to the Valiants of 1961 and 1962, was replaced by the Dodge Dart, offered in the same body styles as the Valiant. It was built on a wheelbase half an inch shorter than before, with an upper belt line that ran in a gentle sweep from the rear body to the front fender tip.
