In 1962 and 1963 both the Standard and Deluxe models received improvements to their interiors and exteriors, as well as enhancements to their equipment. The Subaru 360 of 1962 was in its fifth year on sale. The Sambar van and truck, produced from 1961 with the 360's engine, were popular with small businesses. The Subaru 360 was designed in response to the Japanese government's light car or kei car regulations and its proposal for a larger national car.
