For 1962 a floor mounted, fully synchronized four speed manual transmission became available, and there were four Tempest models, a sedan, a coupe, a station wagon and a convertible. Along with the Trophy 4 engine line, another optional engine in 1961 and 1962 was the aluminum Buick built 215 V8. The Pontiac Tempest was built on the Y platform, with a rear transaxle. The 1962 Tempest was the second year of the rear transaxle compact.
