For the 1962 model year the Lancer hardtop was marketed as the GT 2 Door Hardtop and carried premium trim, with bucket seats in place of the front bench, Lancer GT medallions and GT emblems on the hood, deck lid and dash pad. In the 1962 NHRA Winternationals a Hyper Pak Lancer won its class. Lancer sales did not meet expectations and sold about half as well as the Valiant, so the name was dropped for the redesigned Dart of 1963.
