The 1961 Commuter was a four door wagon built, like the whole full size Mercury line, on Ford based underpinnings after the end of Edsel. Mercury station wagon nameplates stayed the same, with the Commuter set apart from the Colony Park by its lack of woodgrain trim and the higher level of optional equipment that came standard. It was a full size station wagon in the Country Cruiser series. Its trim lacked the woodgrain panels of the Colony Park.
