For the 1960 model year American Motors prepared a Metropolitan convertible for the Easter Parade in New York City, named the Metropolitan Fifth Avenue, finished in pearl pink lacquer with pink and white cowhide upholstery and pink fur carpeting. Three other convertibles with regional themes were also prepared. The car was displayed on the 1960 auto show circuit, and the UK market was without the car between February 1959 and September 1960.
