The Mitsubishi 500, the first postwar passenger car of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries made by itself, went on sale in April 1960 as a two door sedan, 3,140 mm long and weighing 490 kg, with a rear mounted 493 cc air cooled two cylinder OHV engine of 21 PS and a three speed manual transmission, with a top speed of 90 km/h. The DX with quarter lights was added in October 1960, and the comedy group Hana Hajime and the Crazy Cats starred in its advertising.
