The 1959 Ford range was introduced in late 1958 with the Fairlane 500 on top, and the Galaxie was added during the model year as the new highest trim, offered in the same sedan and hardtop styles, with the Sunliner and Skyliner convertibles moved across. It was a chrome and stainless steel car with optional two tone paint, somewhat tamer than its Chevrolet and Plymouth competitors. The parking brake became a pedal, and Ford advertised safety anchorage for the front seats.
