The 1958 Coronet, Royal and Custom Royal used a DeSoto Fireflite chassis but with less ornate trim. Power came from the 230 Getaway flathead six or the 325 Red Ram V8. A Dodge Coronet was also fitted with a JATO rocket unit and driven across the El Mirage dry lake to publicize Dodge's total contact front brakes. The Coronet was the base model, with the Royal and Custom Royal above, and a JATO rocket stunt on a 1958 Coronet publicized Dodge's total contact front brakes in a television advertisement.
