The Adventurer first appeared in 1956 as a sub series of the top Fireflite, a limited production two door hardtop offered only in white, black and gold, with a hot version of the 341 cubic inch Hemi V8, dual exhausts and a long list of standard equipment including mirrors, gold wheel covers, a radio, an electric clock and windshield washers. A total of 996 cars were sold in its first year, making it a rare car even among DeSotos.
