The second generation of the Land Cruiser, called the 20 Series, was introduced in 1955, designed to have a more civilian appeal than the BJ for export reasons. It had a 3.9 liter six cylinder Type F petrol engine and synchromesh on the third and fourth gears, though still no low range transfer case. This was the first model year of the Toyota Land Cruiser (20 series, J20), 1955 to 1959, which took over from the Toyota Land Cruiser (BJ and FJ series); the 1956 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Land Cruiser run from 1951 to 2026.
