For the 1955 model year the Fairlane name replaced the Crestline as Ford's premier full size offering, taking its name from Henry Ford's estate in Dearborn, Michigan. It marked the introduction of the Crown Victoria and 500 nameplates. The Fairlane four door Town Sedan was the most popular sedan Ford sold that year, with 254,437 made at a listed retail price of 1,960 dollars. The Crown Victoria nameplate, later its own model line, and the 500 nameplate, which later became the Five Hundred, were both introduced under the Fairlane name.
