The 1955 Consul was the last year of the first model, which was still the four cylinder version of the Zephyr range, with the 1508 cc engine. It had the umbrella style handbrake under the facia and vacuum windscreen wipers. A Consul convertible by Carbodies and a few estates by Abbott were made. The Consul Mark II followed in 1956 with a new longer wheelbase body. It was built by Ford of Britain at Dagenham. The Consul was the four cylinder car in the Zephyr range, with unibody construction.
