For 1953 Hudson added an upper level Super Wasp line that took over from the discontinued Commodore Six, with better interior materials, a stronger engine, a Hollywood hardtop and a Brougham convertible of which just fifty were made. The base Wasp moved down in price to replace the Pacemaker. With optional twin carburetors the Super Wasp equaled the performance of the heavier Hornet. Hudson's attention that year was on the new Jet. Wasp production totaled 21,876 cars.
