About 550 CJ-3As were assembled by Mitsubishi as the J1 and J2 in late 1952 and early 1953, exclusively for the Japanese police and forestry agency. As of 1951 a Farm Jeep and a Jeep Tractor version were also offered, the latter very bare bones, for field use only and with a power takeoff. The 1952 CJ-3A was still the Willys-Overland civilian Jeep, in the last full year before the CJ-3B replaced it.
