The 1951 Prefect E493A was largely unchanged from the immediate post war design, a four door saloon with a 1,172 cc side valve engine, mechanically operated Girling rod brakes with 10 inch drums, and transverse leaf springs at the front and rear. Ford introduced the larger Consul in 1951, which gave its three box design to the 100E that would follow. The Australian A493A was also built. It was a four door saloon with the side valve engine.
