The 6/80 went into production in 1948 as one of the first two postwar Wolseleys, based on the Morris Six MS, with a 2215 cubic centimeter 72 horsepower straight six with a single overhead camshaft. Wolseley had needed to produce a new postwar engine and turned to its own past experience of adapting designs drawn from an aero engine, the Wolseley Viper V8 of the First World War, so the engine looked quite vintage even for the day.
