Over 12,000 GPA Seeps were made and served with the Allied forces in the Second World War, from D Day onwards, throughout Europe and the Pacific, and the Soviet Union received a third of the total under Lend Lease. The Seep of 1943 was considered too slow and heavy on land and lacked seagoing ability. It was Ford's entry in a contest with Marmon Herrington to build a quarter ton amphibian. The GPA was an amphibious jeep built for the Allied forces, and it was called the Seep by those who used it.
