The name 98 first appeared in 1941, referring to a Series 90 fitted with an eight cylinder engine, as the Oldsmobile top of the line on the large C body. Naming standards were in flux at Oldsmobile at this time, and in 1940 the C body was introduced and it alone was powered by the straight eight engine, with the series given names for the first time. This page belongs to the Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight model on its Oldsmobile make page, and it links to the generation and the neighbouring model years so that the whole run of the model can be followed in order.
