The Airflow debuted for 1934 with much fanfare alongside the Chrysler Airflow, and interest was strong, with unfilled orders totaling 15,580 on April 30, 1934, which was 48.3 percent of the comparable Chrysler and DeSoto shipments of 1933. Chrysler still built a conventional car that year, but DeSoto offered only the Airflow, and although it sold more of them than Chrysler did, Chrysler sold more cars overall because of its traditional line.
