Only in 1914 did Ford finally apply his rule that a customer could have any color provided it was black. The assembly line had cut the time to build a car from over twelve hours to 93 minutes, and in 1914 Ford made more cars than all other automakers combined. The year also marked the end of the first body style: the nearly straight five sided hood of the 1909 to 1914 cars was replaced the next year with a louvered version.
