Daimler was a British car marque, built by the Daimler Company Limited, an independent British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in London in 1896 by H. J. Lawson, which set up its factory in Coventry. The company acquired the right to use the Daimler name from Gottlieb Daimler and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. It was bought by BSA in 1910, was awarded a Royal Warrant in 1902, and used the Daimler-Knight sleeve-valve engine from 1909 to 1935 and a fluid flywheel with a Wilson preselector gearbox from 1930 to the mid-1950s. BSA sold Daimler to Jaguar Cars in 1960, after which it became an upmarket trim level for Jaguar saloons, apart from the DS420 limousine. Jaguar stopped using the name in 2009, the rights passed to Jaguar Land Rover in 2013, and the company was dissolved in December 2025.
