The Daimler Majestic DF316/7 and DF318/9 was a luxury saloon launched by the Daimler Company of Coventry in July 1958 and built until 1962. Edward Turner, appointed chief executive of BSA Automotive in 1957, promised new products, and the car was meant to carry his V8 then under development. It was mechanically up to date, with a three-speed Borg Warner automatic, power steering and vacuum-servo four-wheel disc brakes, the first saloon without sports pretensions to have disc brakes, but its heavy coachbuilt body on a separate chassis was outdated. The engine was an inline six of 3.8 litres with pushrod overhead valves. It replaced the automatic One-O-Four and was succeeded by the Majestic Major.
