The Daimler armoured car was a successful British armoured car design of the Second World War that stayed in service into the 1950s, designed for armed reconnaissance and liaison and later used for internal security in several countries. It was a Birmingham Small Arms design developed in parallel with the Daimler Dingo scout car, in the same layout but larger, with a turret like that of the Tetrarch light tank and a more powerful engine. The rear engine drove all four wheels through a fluid flywheel, a Wilson preselector gearbox and an H-drive arrangement, with full independent suspension. Prototypes appeared in 1939 but transmission problems delayed service entry until mid-1941, and the Daimler Company built 2,694. It served in North Africa, Europe and Burma and with territorial units of the British Army until the 1960s, and some were still used by the Qatari Army in 2012.
