McDonnell Douglas

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

McDonnell Douglas Corporation was an American aerospace manufacturer and defense contractor formed on 28 April 1967 by the merger of McDonnell Aircraft Corporation of St. Louis and the Douglas Aircraft Company of Long Beach, California. Headquartered near St. Louis, it built commercial airliners such as the DC-10, MD-80 and MD-11 and military aircraft including the F-4 Phantom II, F-15 Eagle and F/A-18 Hornet, and in 1984 it bought Hughes Helicopters, whose AH-64 Apache became its best known rotorcraft. It also built the Delta II rocket and the DC-X reusable rocket test vehicle. The company merged into Boeing in August 1997 in a stock swap, with Boeing as the surviving company.
