Convair, the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation, was an American manufacturer created in 1943 by the merger of Consolidated Aircraft and Vultee, and later a division of General Dynamics. It produced the B-24 Liberator and PBY Catalina through its predecessors, then the postwar Convair-Liner airliners, the B-58 Hustler supersonic bomber and the 880 jet airliner. Convair also built delta-wing fighters and the Atlas rocket, which launched American orbital spaceflights.
