A jeep like army and civilian four wheel drive car built by Austin in the 1950s, the Champ was begun as the Nuffield Mudlark and the first of the British Army's soft skinned CT series. It had a Rolls-Royce B40 engine, independent suspension and a 24 volt electrical system, but at 1,200 pounds in 1951 it was too expensive and too complex beside the Land Rover, which had entered army service by 1949 and cost half as much. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the Champ (1951 to 1956).
