The Vectra name was not adopted at the Mark III model change because Vauxhall feared reviving memories of the much maligned Vauxhall Victor, but it would eventually appear on a Vauxhall in 1995, when the Cavalier was finally replaced. The biggest changes to the range were the addition of 2.0 liter sixteen valve engines, better known as the red top, fitted to the GSi 2000 and later SRis. The 1995 Cavalier was the last model year, with the Vectra taking over the Vauxhall name that year.
