Arriving in August 1984, the fifth generation dropped the Corona name in Japan and became simply the Toyota Mark II, now a competitor to the Nissan Bluebird Maxima. The Mark II and its sister cars received the powerful Twin Turbo version of the 1G inline six in October 1985, and in August 1986 the range received a minor facelift. The X70 station wagon was produced from November 1984 to April 1997, and a new Cressida was introduced in 1984 for the 1985 model year.
